The Tata Power Company Limited, India's largest integrated private power utility, today declared the Commercial operation ofthe 250 MW ‘Unit 8’ at the Trombay Thermal Power Station in Chembur, Mumbai.
Trombay Unit # 8 attained full load of 250 MW at 16:27 hours on 26th March 2009. This Unit has successfully completed 72 hours of full load trial operation on 29th March 2009 and on the successful demonstration of the same the Unit’s "Date of Commercial operation" was declared as 29th March 2009.The 250 MW Unit 8, will operate on imported Indonesian coal and will enhance the generation capacity of the Trombay Thermal Plant to 1600 MW from the current capacity of 1350 MW. The commissioning of the Unit will help in bridging the ever increasing demand and supply of power for the city of Mumbai.
The first synchronization of the 250 MW Unit 8 with the grid was achieved on 14th January 2009. Coal firing commenced on 7th March 2009 and full load attained on 26th March 2009. The civil works for the project was executed by Larsen & Toubro. The main plant & balance of equipment was executed by BHEL for supply, erection & commissioning under EPC contract.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad R. Menon, Managing Director, The Tata Power Company Limited said, “We are happy to announce successful completion of full load trial operation of Trombay Unit 8 at 16.30 Hrs on 29th March 2009 and the unit has been declared for Commercial Operation( COD). Tata Power has been in the forefront to supply uninterrupted quality power to the city of Mumbai, and the addition of this unit; further reiterates the company’s commitment to enhance power supply to growing needs of the consumers.”
