Tata Power’s introduces its Flagship Energy conservation program “Tata Power Energy Club” in Lonavla
- Mumbai, November 10, 2009

Kick starts the campaign with sensitizing the students of Sinhagad Public School of the Sinhagad University

Energy “saved” is Energy “earned”. With the demand for ENERGY skyrocketing, the need for effective management and conservation has become paramount with each passing day. Taking due consideration of this urgent need, Tata Power started an innovative and interactive conservation program “Tata Power Energy Club”, involving the youths i.e. school children, to propagate efficient usage of energy and to educate the society on climate change issues.

Post the successful implementation of the energy conservation programme in Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Belgaum and Jamshedpur, the "Tata Power Energy Club", made its debut in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra “Lonavla.”

Kick starting the campaign, the Tata Power’s ‘Energy Conservation Programme’ was introduced to the students of Class V to Class XII of Sinhagad Public School of the Sinhagad University.

Covering a total of 399 students spread over two sessions; awareness among students was created to make them understand and realize the potentials available with them that will enable large saving in the energy bills through effective utilization of resources such as avoiding over heating of bath water and over usage of room heaters etc.

Speaking on the initiative Mr. Prasad Menon, Managing Director, The Tata Power Company Limited, said, ‘The enthusiastic response for our energy conservation programme is overwhelming, with each city the campaign is reaching new levels of penetration and response received is really heartening. Going by this success, we are confident that the citizens of Lonavla will join us in our mission of 'energy conservation' and help us achieve our goal of sensitizing one million citizens by 2010. The support and willingness shown by the different schools and the students; the true ambassadors of the cause, will definitely create a new landmark and further spread the message more and more people.”

In order to make the initiative a success, it is important that the people who train the young minds i.e. Principals and Heads of the educational institutions are taken on board for their belief and supported as they not only will encourage the young minds but play a supervisory role, monitor the program. The company further intends to extend this campaign to the various schools and colleges in the adjourning area thereby attaining the desired target of sensitizing maximum citizens.
