Introduces a School outreach programme in the City
With the increasing demand for ENERGY, effective management and conservation of the same has become the need of the hour. Recognizing the immense value that schools and schoolchildren can bring to the initiative, Tata Power Energy Club believes in involving the youths, the decision makers of tomorrow, who will play a vital role in not only propagating efficient usage of energy but also furthering the larger cause of educating the society on climate change issues and helping build a greener and safer tomorrow.
Further to the implementation of this energy conservation programme in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Pune and Belgaum targeted at a unique audience, the “Tata Power Energy Club”, made its maiden entry in the Jamshedpur city.
Tata Power’s ‘Energy Conservation Programme’ introduced in various schools in the city, aim at creating maximum impact, to educate and create awareness amongst people on the effective management conservation of electricity in our everyday life.
The programme has kick started with 4 schools in Jamshedpur, wherein the 2400 students underwent training sessions and workshops focusing on methods and means of energy conservation.
Speaking on the initiative Mr. P.L. Manjrekar Head-Jojobera Thermal Power Station, Tata Power, said, ‘Our energy conservation programme has received enthusiastic response in Jamshedpur and going by this success, we are confident that the citizens of Jamshedpur will join us in our mission of ‘energy conservation’ to help us achieve our goal of sensitizing one million citizens across the country by 2010. We are overwhelmed by the support and willingness shown by the different schools and believe that these students; the ambassadors of the cause, will further spread the message to more and more people in the years to come’.
In the first leg prominent schools from Jamshedpur include such as Vivek Vidyalaya, Vig English School, Hill top School and Shiksha Niketan High School. Tata Power will be reaching out to total of 8 schools this year in Jamshedpur.
In order to make the initiative a success, it is important that the people who train the young minds i.e. Principals and Heads of the educational institutions are taken on board for their belief and supported as they not only will encourage the young minds but play a supervisory role, monitor the program.
The company further intends to extend this campaign to the various colleges across the country and has already started with Mumbai, thereby attaining the desired target of sensitizing maximum citizens.
The Programme:
Interactive sessions through In-class Educational Film and Presentation are undertaken to reinforce the content and assess the integration of thought into action, school children are trained to understand the basics such as Interpretation of electricity bills, basic steps that will help curb wastage of power at home, school and society with the help of Energy Audits and Energy Calculators, Optimizing the use of electrical gadgets / devices at home with the participation of family members, recording and sharing the effective practices adopted and results within their immediate circle.
The initiative aims not only at bringing down energy consumption in their homes but also spread the message in their neighborhood.
