Maiden Tata Power Energy Club ‘Energy Q’ contest tests young minds
Aims at challenging and raising the bar on energy awareness
With every city that Tata Power Energy Club was introduced to, the goal to attain the sensitization of one million citizens across the country is getting closer and closer. Imbibed by Schools, Students, Principals and Heads of educational institutions, “The Energy Conservation” touched a new milestone with each passing day/ week, creating the right platform to test the young minds for the next level and thereby kick-starting ‘The Energy Quiz’, an all-India, inter-city quiz contest to challenge young minds their energy awareness.
The National Tata Power Energy Club Energy Q Champions were announced and felicitated, in Mumbai. Of the 120 schools and 360 students that participated in the preliminary round, 4 schools made it to the finals. After an intense competition between the schools, Shashrek Ambardar, Siddhant Rathore and Gunmaya Mann from Ryan International School, Noida emerged as the winners of the quiz contest held at KC College, Mumbai.
Mr. Banmali Agrawala, Executive Director, Tata Power felicitated the participants from the following schools who entered the final round – Jamnabai Narsee, Lokhandwala Foundation, Apeejay and Ryan International School.
Students from four cities i.e. Delhi (NCR region), Pune, Ahmedabad and Mumbai who earlier underwent a city level three stage preliminary knockout round and quarter final before qualifying for the grand finale are now here to compete for the grand finale.
At the quarter finals’ stage which was held in Mumbai yesterday, 4 schools from Delhi, 4 from Pune, 3 schools from Ahmedabad and 27 schools from Mumbai had participated. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Banmali Agrawala, Executive Director, The Tata Power Company, said, “Global Warming, Climate change is a reality facing not just us (India) but everyone. There was an urgent need to educate and bridge the gap for simpler and easier energy conservation practices. We created a platform which is fast gaining acceptance and thereby making the next generation more aware of the situation. Today, these students showed their eagerness and willingness to accept challenges and every participant gave their best. I am quite delighted to announce the maiden ‘Energy Q’ Champions.”
Tata Power Energy Club is aimed at creating awareness and encouraging power saving practices among the youth. As part of its initiative to educate youth to curb wasteful usage of energy and adopt energy-efficient practices, it will help spread the message, and attract and engage larger youth numbers in a bid to avert the energy crisis.
About ‘Tata Power Energy Club’ (TPEC):
The Tata Power Energy Club (TPEC) started with educating and sensitizing school Tata Power Energy Club few school children in Mumbai in 2007 and has now spread to cover more than 250 schools across Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Belgaum, Jamshedpur and Lonavla on the subject of energy conservation. To spark off a youth initiative for curbing energy wastage through active measures we have also inducted college students in Mumbai and Pune this year.
Nearly four lakhs citizens have been sensitized in an attempt to create awareness about this issue and our target for this academic year is to cover 1 million citizens. The participants who managed to show the maximum savings in their electricity bills or who reached out to a large number of people were felicitated as ‘Energy Champions’.
Tata Power looks at setting in a motion a movement which could well help lead to a better tomorrow for not just citizens of Mumbai but of the country. It is an Energy Conservation initiative that focuses on bringing about a first-hand realization of the energy crisis and the country at large, through the enterprise and creativity of our youth!
TPEC provides the ground for youth to share and expand their understanding, and bring about a chain-reaction that can significantly reduce wastage of energy in the city. With adequate publicity, the Club will sensitize maximum number of citizens across country, and the spark can turn into a spreading flame of enthusiasm to protect our resources and environment.
