Tata Power Community Development Trust and SAMPARC nurture sportsmanship in Mulshi through ‘Kabaddi’ coaching in Maharashtra

24 Apr 2019

Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) has always promoted ‘Care for Community’ by advocating various initiatives to empower vulnerable communities. In line with this philosophy, TPCDT along with local NGO SAMPARC (Social Action for Manpower Creation) introduced Kabbadi across three villages - Bhambarde, Vandre and Ambavane in Mulshi, Pune.

Under this intervention, organisers successfully held inter-region matches and are now gearing up to conduct taluka level matches for the next academic year. This intervention will provide them with technical and professional support that includes coaches and instructors to train the local youth along with providing other sports facilities like a well-maintained playground for daily practice matches.

Villages have been able to develop a separate team of boys and girls who can participate in local matches through this intervention. Further, the sport has opened up fresh opportunities for them to compete at higher state as well as national levels.

Shalini Singh, Chief, Corporate Communications & Sustainability, Tata Power, said, “Some of the best sports stars who have gone on to represent the country in international sporting events have originally come from our villages and small towns. Identifying hidden talents and providing the right opportunity and forum to express these is an essential part of nation-building and to make the best out the human capital our country has to offer.  Tata Power through TPCDT will continue to support such initiatives that create a level playing field for the youth of this country irrespective of where they come from.”

TPCDT will continue to play a facilitative role in improving and strengthening the lives of rural and urban population through various interventions in areas of education, healthcare, and livelihood in Gujarat, Maharastra, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. It aims to deploy various developmental initiatives that incubates, implements and multiply diverse community-based projects to help build a better and sustainable society.
