Purpose of Having Affirmative Action
In line with the vision of our founder, Mr. J. N. Tata, Tata Power has been a pioneer in the power sector in India for almost a century both in terms of its leadership in technology adoption as well as its care towards all stakeholders.
‘Leadership with Care’ is our guiding principle and motivates us to make a difference. For more than nine decades, Tata Power has endeavored to positively uplift the lives of communities around its areas of operation. In line with the Tata Group belief that addressing the social needs of traditionally disadvantaged groups is the ‘right thing to do’ and as part of our nation building endeavour, we have carved out a focused approach for the upliftment of these communities through Affirmative Action.
Broad Categories Under Affirmative Action
Education: Tata power has a policy of supporting education for unprivileged students by providing assistance in various forms like scholarships, infrastructure development, career counseling and others. The emphasis in each of the education initiatives is not only on increasing the learning level of the students but also on engagement with the students to provide guidance related to career options as well linkage with the employability as well as employment initiatives of Tata Power.
Employability: With a view to upgrading the skills of individuals belonging to unprivileged community as part of the agenda of educating and skilling them, such that they can expect to be treated on par with other sections of society. Tata Power has partnered with ITIs, setup a Vocational Training centre and initiated various programs.
Employment: Providing full equality of opportunity to the underprivileged communities bringing them at par with other sections of society.
Entrepreneurship: Tata Power commits itself in helping people from SC/ST background become entrepreneurs thereby making the community members self-reliant.
