ESG focus Decarbonising across the value chain

Clean energy for
a nation on the move

We adopted a scientific approach to assess greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our value chain, enabling comprehensive accounting of Scope 3 emissions. This approach addresses the requirements of stakeholders across both upstream and downstream segments, with a strong emphasis on accurate estimation and transparent reporting of all relevant emission categories.

Clean energy infrastructure – Tata Power
Scope 1

Conventional Generation
Cluster

Emissions largely arise from fuel combustion within our Conventional Generation Cluster (thermal, WHRB/BFG). Accordingly, we are committed to transitioning away from thermal assets and moving towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.

GHG (tCO₂e)
  • 2,12,81,717 Thermal – fuel combustion and material consumption
  • 37,23,862 Waste heat recovery and blast furnace gas
  • 149 Hydros – fuel and material consumption
  • 232 Corporate – high speed diesel consumption
  • 10,59,000 Coal Mining + Tata Projects + Nelco – Equity share
  • 507 Clean and Green generation (Solar Manufacturing, Solar O&M, Wind O&M)
  • 1,214 T&D – refrigerants
2,60,66,679 GHG (tCO₂e) Total Scope 1 emissions
Scope 2

Transmission and Distribution (T&D)

Our transmission and distribution portfolio accounts for most of the Scope 2 and Scope 3 (Category 3D) emissions, driven by network losses and purchased power sold to consumers. We aim to reduce these emissions by lowering losses and increasing the share of green energy in line with RPO/HPO obligations.

GHG (tCO₂e)
  • 1,80,365 Clean and Green generation – Aux Grid consumption
  • 23,24,846 T&D – Aux consumption & losses
  • 81,975 Thermal – Aux grid consumption
25,87,187 GHG (tCO₂e) Total Scope 2 emissions
