Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT), has been relentlessly working towards mobilizing rural women in and around its operational areas into Self Help Groups (SHGs) and elevate them in a phased manner. Continuing with this commitment, the company has been able to implement various livelihood and Social entrepreneurship initiatives with the help of Maharashtra Rural Livelihood Mission (MRLM), in Dherand.

By designing a special programme to empower women and increase their earnings and livelihood profitability, the TPCDT team of Dherand has so far successfully enrolled 26 SHG and benefitted 390 SHG members from Dherand and Shahapur villages. MRLM has been providing skill development training and supporting these members. This will enable them to get a sizable loan without interest for Social Entrepreneurship Initiatives post their graduation (after eight months). Additionally, they have also streamlined financial discipline among them by sanctioning Rs. 1, 80,000 as “Revolving Fund" for 12 SHG members for income generation initiatives and inter loaning purpose.

Talking about the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & ED, Tata Power, said, “We, at TPCDT have always focused on empowering communities in our operational areas and enable them with new opportunities to showcase their business skills. Through such SHGs, we aim to impart marketing and social entrepreneurial skills amongst women to make them financially independent. We would like to applaud every women who actively participated in this initiative and helped TPCDT turn it into a huge success. We would like to thank Maharashtra Rural Livelihood Mission for their support in restructuring of SHGs, documentation, establishing governance mechanism and networking opportunities for the women of Dehrand.”

TPCDT will continue providing support to strengthen and diversify livelihood resources of the women in Dehrand which can earn them immense profits going forward.
