Tata Power in partnership with ALC India empowers young entrepreneurs with Maval Dairy program

~ Enhanced skills and knowledge of 102 youth in setting up dairy enterprises ~

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company has always been a front-runner in uplifting rural areas. Continuing with the commitment, Tata Power, in a joint venture with ALC India, launched a dairy farming initiative, Maval Dairy program. The objective of the initiative is to offer specialised training called Mini Dairy entrepreneurship program to encourage and inspire the country’s youth to take up dairying as a profitable enterprise.

The program’s genesis is in line with the government’s value of innovation and entrepreneurship. It was started to support the livelihoods of women and men in the Maval Taluka to enhance right skills and knowledge required to set up dairy enterprise. The Mini Dairy Entrepreneurship program successfully certified 102 youth Advance Dairy Entrepreneur that will help them to augment their earnings.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & Executive Director, Tata Power, said, “At Tata Power, we believe in the government’s vision of nurturing a culture of young entrepreneurs to build ‘New India’ and recognize the importance of women entrepreneurship. We also aim to stimulate interest, promote innovative ideas, best practices and increase productivity in the rural areas of our country.”

This program targets select beneficiaries, married women from 24 identified villages of Maval Taluka in the age group of 18-40 years with dairy farming experience of at least 2-3 years. Additionally, the candidates must aspire to develop and own an animal dairy farm and be willing to invest close to Rs. 7 lakhs to be arranged as loans through a tie-up with banks and other financial institutions.

The 51-day training course is designed to be conducted in 5 centres, Wadeshwar, Ingalun, Kashal, Falne and Wahangaon. Out of the 51 days, 25 days are allocated for theory, 5 days for exposure visits and 21 days of apprenticeship. The faculty boasts of esteemed practitioners from Government Veterinary department, Veterinary College, Godrej Agro vet and Dairy Technical and Agriculture experts. It focuses on varied aspects of dairying; clean milk production, animal health care management, fodder and feed management, ration balancing, animal breeding and artificial insemination & calf management, dairy marketing, dairy farm business economics, linkage between Dairy animal & agriculture, business plan for dairy farm and bank loan, Panchgavya knowhow, and manure and urine management.

This entrepreneurship initiative is organised in association with the Agricultural Skill Council of India (ASCI), Ministry of Skill Development offers an attractive incentive of Rs. 2000 as an award money on maintaining 85% attendance & clearing the exam. On successful completion, each candidate is awarded with certificate from ASCI, National Skill Development Corporation.
