Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, is committed towards resource conservation, environment protection and sustainable development of the communities living in and around its operational areas. Their win at the recently held Flower Show by the Lonavla Municipal Council (LMC) is a testament of this.

The event exhibited Tata Power’s environment friendly and decorative range of plants grown organically with in-house composting thereby promoting the brand’s philosophy to support zero usage of plastic bags & plastic pots. It also involved a special appreciation by LMC for Tata Power’s efforts to provide them with 10,000 saplings of native tree species of Western Ghats which will be planted as a part of the State Government’s 13 Crore Tree plantation programme this year in Monsoon. LMC will be carrying out this plantation drive in Lonavla alongside volunteers from Tata Power, school and college students, local Government bodies, and another local NGO’s. Apart from Tata Power, the Flower Show saw an active participation from L&T Training and Development Centre, Hotel Dukes, Hotel Fariyas, Avion Resort, and others.

Talking about the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & Executive Director, Tata Power, said, “We are glad to win this honour from LMC and would always remain committed towards being environment friendly for the betterment of the society. This award has not only proved that Tata Power cares for the environment but also will further motivate us in our efforts towards being a world class organization.”

As responsible custodians, Tata Power has always looked to preserve and enhance the biodiversity around areas related to catchments of six lakes in the Western Ghats. They have been intensifying the plantation drive since 1991 by planting six to seven lakh trees every year and has planted about 78 lakh saplings over a period of 27 years. By extending their wholehearted support, they have preserved and restored the habitat for selected fauna in biodiversity hotspot areas of Western Ghats, like the Walwhan garden. The garden serves as an instrumental place in educating students from botany, zoology & environment sciences about various species and boasts of many medicinal plants from North Western Ghats on a large scale thereby ensuring conservation.
