Directorate of Vocational Education & Training, Government of Maharashtra felicitates Tata Power for its efforts in vocational education and training

~On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, recognises the company for collaborating with ITI Jawahar for skill upgradation efforts~

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has been felicitated by the Directorate of Vocational Education & Training, Government of Maharashtra (GoM) for its efforts in the area of vocational education and training through its CSR arm , Tata Power Community Development Trust ( TPCDT).

Ms. Shalini Singh, Chief–Corporate Communications & Sustainability, Tata Power & Managing Trustee ( TPCDT)  accepted the felicitation at an event organised in Mumbai today on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day. The event was graced by Hon'ble Governor of Maharashtra Shri C. Vidyasagar Rao, Honourable Minister for Skill development and Entrepreneurship Mr. Sambhaji Nilangekar, Honourable Minister of State for Skill development and entrepreneurship Dr. Ranjit Patil , .Additional Chief Secretary, GoM  Ms. Sujata Saunik, and   Mr. Anil Jadhao , Director , Directorate of Vocational Education & Training ,Maharashtra along with other government officials , ITI colleges faculty  and Industry partners.

“The larger objective of Tata Power’s efforts in the skill development space is multifold.  One, it creates a large pool of workforce that is skilled to meet the changing demands of the country power sector; two it provides opportunities for youth to stay relevant in the dynamic workforce market and offers improved livelihood and eventually harness the potential of the demographic dividend of this country in the pursuit of nation building. We thank the Government of Maharashtra for recognising our efforts,” said Ms. Shalini Singh, Chief–Corporate Communications & Sustainability, Tata Power.

Tata Power had joined hands with ITI Jawahar ( Palghar district) under public private partnership with Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, GoM to upgrade the skill, education with focus on tribal youth.

The strategic objective of this partnership was to augment the existing efforts under Public-Private Partnership to help youth achieve their potential in industrial skills and meet the demand for skilled workforce in the power sector.

Tata Power also offered soft skills courses, Motor Mechanic Lab Development and mentoring support by employee volunteers. In addition to this, the students of ITI were also provided short term skill courses at the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) at Mumbai with an objective to imparting experiential learning through simulation-based equipment.

These collective efforts were also instrumental in ensuring improved learning opportunities and enabling better placement prospects for the students who were also provided pre-placement coaching by employee volunteers at ITI Jawhar.
