Tata Power's CGPL recognised by Gujarat Government for impactful & sustainable interventions during severe drought in Kutch, Gujarat

~Supports villages with supply of fodder, fodder kits, Gaucher Land development and Participatory Ground Water management ~

Tata Power’s fully-owned subsidiary, Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd (CGPL) was recognised by the Government of Gujarat for its various impactful and sustainable interventions in Kutch during the 2018-19 droughts that benefitted  the nearby villages..  At a special event organized in Bhuj on 23rd Aug,2019 , the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Vijay Rupani presented accolades and a letter of appreciation to Mr. Vijay Namjoshi, CEO, CGPL.

CGPL’s CSR intervention in the drought affected regions of Kutch in 2018-19 included a) Constant supply & management of fodder for cattle, benefitting; b) Distribution of agriculture kits to the farmers having the facility of irrigation for local fodder cultivation; c) Establishment of innovative fodder demonstration plots of newer varieties of fodder which is suitable for the region (Napier Bajara-21 & CO3); d) Constant interaction with the stakeholders with effective dialogue; e) Effective and extensive work in the ground water management under  CGPL’s  flagship “Participatory Ground Water Management” or PGWM program.

CGPL has continued with the  supply  of fodder to three villages round the years and also provided additional support towards supply of fodder in five more villages.  Furthermore, timely interventions included distribution of fodder seed/slips to the farmers from the 15 villages and Gaucher or grazing land development for cattle in one village and initiating PGWM in 19 villages.

Mr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Power said, “CGPL has always strived to support the local community, particularly during challenging times.  The drought faced by Kutch was particularly severe in 2018 when the region received a fraction of its annual expected rainfall.  We, at Tata Power, would like to congratulate the team led by Mr. Vijay Namjoshi for the timely and impactful work and the recognition received from the state government.”

The CSR intervention in the drought hit areas in Kutch continued up to July 2019, until the onset of annual monsoon.
