The team of Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd (CGPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, recently won the Runner-Up Award for the ‘Environment Excellence Award 2019’ by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) for their exemplary efforts in Environment Management.
The award was presented by Shri P.K Mishra, IAS Principal Secretary, Department of Environment, Govt of West Bengal to Dr.I.N. Rao and Mr. Tejas Khadse from CGPL’s environment team under the Large Enterprise Category at an event organised by ICC in Kolkata.
Around 30 organisations including NTPC, Vedanta Power, Reliance Power, ASCON Power, L&T etc. competed in this category. Post a thorough evaluation by members of Kolkata Pollution Control Board, Govt of West Bengal, ICC and the Central Pollution Control Board, CGPL was selected for the award.
By bestowing this award, ICC recognised various measures undertaken by CGPL not only for regulatory requirements, but also as a part of the management's commitment towards ensuring that the people and planet are adequately protected through effective environmental measures.
Expressing happiness on receiving the award, Mr.A.N.Ramesh, CEO, CGPL said: “We, at CGPL, have always been committed towards environment and resource conservation in our areas of operation. Through our interventions, we will continue to adopt innovative methods to reduce and prevent pollution and promote clean energy for a sustainable environment.”

Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Ltd, has implemented the 4000 MW (800 x 5 units) UMPP near the port city of Mundra in the state of Gujarat in India. This UMPP is India's first 800 MW unit thermal power plant using supercritical technology and is arguably the most energy-efficient, coal-based thermal power plant in the country. As per the bidding norms, the Project was designed to be run on imported coal. The Project is expected to benefit close to 16 million domestic consumers apart from supplying cost-competitive power to industry and agriculture. Reliable power from the project will help improve the competitiveness of the manufacturing and services industries, which often rely on expensive standby diesel generation to meet their power needs. Competitively priced power will also improve access to electricity in rural and urban areas while reducing the subsidy burden on the state Governments.
