24 Aug 2020

Tata Power, through its skill development endeavour, Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) has always strived to bridge the skill development gap in the Indian power sector by training youth with employable skills. Recognizing this effort, TPSDI was conferred with ‘Gold’ at the ‘2020 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards’ under the ‘Best Advance in Competencies and Skill Development’ category for the Brandon Hall’s Human Capital Management (HCM) program. It recognised the reach and effectiveness of TPSDI’s comprehensive safety training for Tata Power employees.

The Brandon Hall Awards are considered to be the most prestigious recognition of excellence in the learning industry worldwide (informally they are often referred to as the Oscars of the Learning industry). The entries were evaluated by an international panel of independent industry experts, Brandon Hall Group senior analysts and their executive leadership team. The judging was based on the following criteria: fit the need, design of the program, functionality, innovation and overall measurable benefits.

Delighted by this recognition, Mr. Jayvadan Mistry, Chief – TPSDI, said, "We are proud to have made a difference to the lives of people and the industry by empowering trainees with relevant skills. I would like to thank the management for their immense faith and support in us and my team for designing and conducting an effective training program which showcases its impact in a way that has now been recognised internationally at the highest level. This award is a testament of the deep and positive impact our programs have on the lives of our trainees and we will continue to raise the bar and enhance the lives of more and more people in future.”

Since its inception, TPSDI has trained more than 70,000 people. TPSDI's robust training programs have resulted in skill gain and the ISO:29990 certified Institute has a rigorous process that tracks the effectiveness of its training by not only assessing the skills and knowledge gained by the trainees but also by monitoring them when they secure employment. TPSDI currently provides placements to 91% of the eligible youth trained at the Institute.

TPSDI, currently has five training centres across India leveraging the facilities of Tata Power: Shahad – Mumbai; Trombay – Mumbai; Maithon – Dhanbad, Mundra – Kutch, Gujarat and Jojobera – Jamshedpur. The Institute conducts several skill development programs to equip youth with relevant employable skills. Apart from Tata Power’s, TPSDI also trains engineers and technicians from other organizations and offers courses for engineering college students, enabling them to acquire skills that bridge the gap between academics and industry.
