Tata Power undertakes a special drive to implement safety measures for citizens of Mumbai during monsoon

In a bid to prevent any electricity-related untoward incident in the city during monsoon, Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility and has undertaken a special drive to implement several measures for the citizens of Mumbai. These proactive measures are taken to ensure the safety and well being of our citizens:

  • Inspection of over 5000 substations and distribution panels at prominent public locations along with ATMs and street light poles accessible to the general public thereby, ensuring that there is no leakage of electricity
  • Proactive detection and elimination of electric shock hazards on electrical equipment/installations at various places in Mumbai
  • Adequate dewatering of the pumps installed at all distribution and consumer sub-stations to avoid flooding
  • Conducting tree trimming drives to avoid them from falling on electrical installation
  • Our substations have also been equipped boats .
  • Ensuring adequate stock of essential spare parts, tools and equipment to minimize the response time in case of emergency
  • Conducting awareness drives to educate consumers about the safety measures which advises them to stay away from electrical installations and cautions children from playing near transformers and cables
  • Installing an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) to help avoid shocks and accidents
  • Issuing monsoon advisory on Tata Power’s Social Media platforms along with distributing posters of this advisory in residential societies
  • Facilitating a dedicated 24x7 Toll Free No 1800 2095161 and WhatsApp 704511623 for consumers to reach out in case of an emergency or a power disruption. In case of Fire / Accident consumers can reach out to 2577 4399 as well.

These measures are a testament of Tata Power’s proactive preparedness to ensure safety for its 7.3 Lakh consumers in Mumbai and provide a trouble-free & safe power supply during Monsoon. Consumers have whole heartedly welcomed these measures by Tata Power which were undertaken in the interest of public safety.

SOME SAFETY TIPS:

  • Do not take shelter beneath tree/any temporary structure in case of heavy wind, thunderstorm, and downpour
  • Ensure that the meter cabin providing electric supply to the premise is adequately protected from water logging or leakage
  • Put off the main switch in case there is water logging or leakage observed in the meter cabin & Put on the main switch only after ensuring that all faults have been rectified properly
  • In case any alterations are made in the wiring, it should be thoroughly checked and tested by a licensed electrical contractor
  • Stay away from electrical installations such as poles, sub-stations, transformers, and streetlights 
  • Caution children against playing near electricity installations, even if they are barricaded
  • Install an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) to help avoid shocks
  • Keep a 'tester' at home. If any Electrical installation is wet, touch it only with a 'tester' or using hand gloves, safety shoes or insulated platform
