This includes successful integration of a reliable and robust backend infrastructure for the 1 lakh smart metering points with end-to-end billing, customer relationship management (CRM), and Geographical Information System (GIS) within a short span of 6 months.

Additionally, a web portal and mobile application have also been developed for providing real time power consumption and analytics to all smart meter customers.

Speaking about the drive, Mr Nilesh Kane – Chief Mumbai Distribution, Tata Power said, "We are continually empowering our customers through smart and efficient energy solutions. With Smart meter data analytics, consumers can optimize their consumption and ensure savings in their energy bills. These meters are providing customers real time understanding of the power consumption on an  hourly, daily and monthly basis. Valuable data analytics and benchmarking derived from the smart meters is being provided to customers for energy audits and better energy management making sustainable lifestyle attainable for them. "

Smart meter data is useful for network planning, capex optimization, energy audits and other activities like meter firmware updating through remote meter reconnection and disconnection metering, remote monitoring with minimal manual interventions and site visits. Tata Power has ensured more than 100 energy audits in the recent times. Smart Meters will also help in providing transparency along with bouquet of value added features.

Thecompany's smart metering program is in alignment with Government of India’s National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM) which aims at accelerating the deployment of smart meters.

Smart meters installation is an important step towards grid modernisation as it helps in reduction of AT&C losses, real time energy audits, timely and accurate billing, reduction in carbon footprints, quick outage detection, accurate load forecasting and overall improved service quality for utility firms.
