Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility has emerged as one of ‘India’s Most Sustainable Companies’ at rank 13 and an A+ rating, according to the annual survey conducted by Sustain Labs Paris (SLP), France.

The most sustainable Indian companies study by SLP, an enterprise based in France, New Zealand and India, in association with Business World, mapped and identified 200 largest companies in the country by revenue and ranked them across various parameters after an in-depth analysis. These corporate houses were ranked on parameters like resource efficiency, social entrepreneurship, financial management, employee well-being, clean revenue and inclusive supply chains. Diving deeper into these criteria, 31 aspects along with their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were identified, which helped examine, assess and rank all the companies. In addition, in-house experts at SLP provided detailed expert reviews of these companies.

Mr Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “As a leader in India’s energy sector, we are setting a bold example by increasing our share of clean energy to more than 60 percent of our power generation portfolio by 2025.  We are set to emerge as the leader in renewable energy space by covering the entire spectrum of products and services such as rooftop solar solutions, solar micro-grids, solar pumps as also in electric vehicle charging infrastructure and home automation to support clean and green energy.”

Tata Power is the first Indian utility to commit to be carbon neutral by 2050. The company is forging ahead in its energy transition to renewable energy sources of power by making new zero coal based investments and retiring coal based capacity upon end-of-life. Through its recent collaboration with AES & Mitsubishi Corporation, Tata Power aims to power up South Asia’s largest grid-scale 10MW energy storage system in India.

Sustain Labs Paris turns around large organisations towards becoming more sustainable. It acts upon the conviction that every organisation must be a social entrepreneur such that its business model itself must ensure long term financial stability and social good. To do so, the Lab brings together leading sustainability academic experts from across the world to work on its projects. It is supported by the French government’s wing for scientific and academic exchange in India. In addition to a ranking, the survey also profiles the top 20 companies and their best practices in order to acknowledge corporate efforts to adapt to sustainable practices toward a better planet.
