RO water transforms Rashida's life

Rashida Khatoon is a resident of JJ Cluster in Delhi. She and her family has been facing shortage of clean drinking water and were dependent of water from tankers to fulfil their basic needs. This was leading to health hazards and illnesses. While filling water from tankers, there were fights between the community members. Through the Sanjeevani RO water ATM initiative, now they get up to 10 litres of safe drinking water per day which is adequate for her family with 3 children. This RO water is being used for cooking and drinking. Use of RO water has helped improve their health and living conditions.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME: SANJEEVANI

Sanjeevani was a hi-scale and replicable drinking water initiative undertaken by Tata Power-DDL to address the water related issues in JJ Clusters of Delhi distribution license area. The objective is to provide a solution which would be owned by the community as well as be a self-sustainable model based on revenue earning for managing the recurring costs. The process included formation of 16 women self-help groups (SHGs) which would serve as the institution in 11 JJ Clusters and 5 Delhi Metro Station. It has provided a sustainable livelihood option for women SHG members who are earning an additional household income. This initiative was also scaled across 39 Government Schools and educational institutions.
