Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, was bestowed with two awards at the Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Awards 2019 recently. Tata Power’s environment and resource conservation programme ‘Club Enerji’ won the ‘Cause Branding’ category and its bio-diversity initiative ‘Act for Mahseer’ won the “Awareness Branding” category award. The award hosted by the organizers of World CSR Day was held at Taj Lands end, Mumbai.

The awards recognized Club Enerji for its efforts and achievements in spreading awareness about energy conservation amongst students and teachers across the country along with the company’s unique four decade programme, Act for Mahseer for ‘Awareness Branding’ that helped save the river fish species from the threat of extinction.

Mr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Power said, “It is an honour to be recognized for our two most far-reaching initiatives – ‘Club Enerji’ and ‘Act for Mahseer’. For over a decade, these two programmes have been instrumental in sensitizing young minds on energy and resource conservation and achieving environmental conservation goals. We thank the organizers of the CSR Leadership Awards for recognizing our efforts and the outcome.”

Since its inception in 2007, ‘Club Enerji’ has reached out to more than 533 schools nationwide, sensitizing over 19.34 million citizens and saving more than 25 million units of energy. With over 1,526 Mini Clubs the initiative so far has 2,38,385 Energy Champions, and 2,83,473 Energy Ambassadors to its credit.

Four decades ago, Tata Power initiated its flagship biodiversity programme ‘Act for Mahseer’. Over these years, it has strived to conserve this legendary fish by operating in three thematic areas - Captive Breeding, Ecology and Awareness & Sensitization. This unique programme has not only managed to save the Mahseer fish from extinction but also become an additional source of livelihood for the local communities and is fast emerging as an avenue for eco-tourism for recreational anglers.
