Tata Power Solar delivers reliable energy through microgrids in the Sunderbans
Powering the future: Sustainability on the go
Tata Power lights up remote communities across the Sundarbans, West Bengal, India with its extensive microgrid expertise. The 110 kW Sundarbans project exemplifies their success, showcasing seamless planning, smart execution, and a commitment to delivering clean and reliable power.
About the project
It’s no secret that economic growth and development follow electricity. In line with this, the government of India is on a mission to electrify all the villages in the country. While the effort has been generous, there are still some remote rural areas where electrification remains a challenge.
That is when Tata Power entered the game, as a champion for rural electrification. The team not only understood the needs of the residents but also crafted a cost-effective solution to empower their lives in 2011.
A village nestled deep within the Sundarbans, seemingly untouched by the modern world, was given access to electricity. A pocket-friendly, custom-designed solution to power their lives.
Innovation and solution
TPSSL rose to the challenge with a groundbreaking solution for 2,00,000-residents in the village.
Since the village received limited sunlight, a traditional grid reliant on sunshine was not an ideal choice. Hence, Tata Power Solar devised a unique system. They customized the battery bank to operate on a "two-day autonomy mechanism." This clever design allowed the battery to discharge only 25-30% daily, regardless of weather. This strategy preserved 70-80% of the energy for the following day, ensuring consistent power even during cloudy periods.
To combat the issue of accessibility, Tata Power meticulously planned the shipment of component along with the work processes. This ensured the project stayed on track as promsied, unfazed by logistical challenges.
