About Tata Power Trading Company

Founded in 2003, Tata Power Trading Company Limited (TPTCL) is India’s first power trading company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power. As a pioneer among power trading companies in India, TPTCL earned the country’s first Category I trading license from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) in 2004. This license empowered TPTCL to trade unlimited volumes of power across both interstate and intrastate markets, helping to shape the landscape of power trading in India.

TPTCL has consistently stayed ahead in the evolving energy market, recognized as a Grade-1 ESCO by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The company has introduced industry-first initiatives such as intrastate captive wheeling, cross-border merchant hydro trading, energy banking, REC and ESCerts trading, and functions as a Qualified Coordinating Agency (QCA) for renewable generators. As a prominent electric power trading company, TPTCL actively trades on all major energy platforms in India, including Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), Power Exchange of India Limited (PXIL), Hindustan Power Exchange (HPX), Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), and New Age Markets in Electricity (NAME). TPTCL also participates internationally through the Evident iREC portal, enabling seamless global renewable certificate transactions.

TPTCL’s unique strength lies in delivering integrated power trading solutions through a flexible subscription-based approach that combines power trading, green energy sourcing, digital energy intelligence, and sustainability advisory. Its flagship Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) platform offers real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and AI-driven insights that transform energy consumption from a cost center into a strategic business advantage. This helps businesses move from reactive to proactive energy management aligned with ESG goals.
Extending this integrated model, TPTCL’s Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) helps clients modernize industrial cooling infrastructure without upfront investments. Using high-efficiency chillers, automated controls, and diagnostics, CaaS delivers performance-linked savings, improved uptime, and enhanced energy efficiency, all on a pay-as-you-use basis.

Our generation portfolio stretches across the length and breadth of India and reaches into Bhutan showing our commitment to serve diverse energy needs wherever they arise. With over 3 GW of firm, flexible, and renewable power capacity including a strong 900 MW hydro presence spanning India and Bhutan, more than 400 MW of solar, wind, and hybrid assets, and over 2 GW of reliable thermal power, we offer solutions that blend sustainability with stability. This wide and balanced portfolio allows us to support businesses across regions with dependable and customized energy options that help meet their operational goals and environmental commitments.
