Tata Power’s partnership with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited is built on an established presence in Bhutan, shaped through a portfolio of hydropower initiatives. Together, these projects have strengthened Bhutan’s renewable capacity, enabled cross-border energy exchange with India, and laid a strong foundation for long-term regional energy cooperation, anchored in trust, scale, and shared ambition
A pioneering milestone in Bhutan’s energy journey, Dagacchu stands as the country’s first public-private partnership in hydropower, developed jointly by Druk Green Power Corporation Limited and The Tata Power Company Limited. Commissioned in 2015, it marked the beginning of a long-standing collaboration, delivering reliable clean power while enabling cross-border electricity trade. Tata Power holds a 26% stake in the project, underscoring its early and enduring role in Bhutan’s hydropower sector
Emerging as one of Bhutan’s most significant upcoming hydropower developments, Khorlochhu reflects the next phase of large-scale collaboration between Druk Green Power Corporation Limited and Tata Power. Located on the Kholongchhu River in eastern Bhutan’s Trashiyangtse district, the project is expected to be commissioned in 2029. Once operational, it will support Bhutan’s growing electricity demand while strengthening cross-border renewable power supply to both Bhutan and India through high-capacity transmission networks
The 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project (DHPP) represents a defining step in shaping South Asia’s clean energy future through cross-border collaboration. Developed as Bhutan’s largest hydropower project under a public-private partnership between Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation, and supported by long-term financing from the World Bank, Dorjilung is expected to generate over 4,500 GWh of clean electricity annually, with about 80% supplied to India. Designed as a run-of-river project on the Kuri Chhu River, Dorjilung strengthens regional energy security and cross-border clean power integration. Tata Power Trading Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, will be responsible for importing the power into India and managing its onward distribution.
