Tata Power Brings ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ to Bihar, Expanding Access to Rooftop Solar and Battery Storage Solutions for Affordable Clean Energy

Patna, Bihar; 20th August 2026: Tata Power Solaroof, a part of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) and a subsidiary of Tata Power Company,  today brought its flagship ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign to Bihar, expanding access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy solutions across the state.

The campaign brings together rooftop solar, battery storage, flexible financing and community-led engagement to enable households, businesses and communities to take greater control of their energy needs. With the proposition “The Power is With You – Generate, Store & Use,” Tata Power is creating an integrated clean energy ecosystem that enables consumers to generate their own power, store surplus energy and use it when they need it.

Under the campaign, Tata Power Solaroof plans to facilitate rooftop solar adoption across 5 lakh households in Bihar over the next three years, supporting the state’s transition towards distributed renewable energy. The initiative will cover urban, semi-urban and rural markets and offer rooftop solar solutions ranging from 1 kW to 10 kW, catering to diverse electricity consumption requirements.

Bihar is witnessing growing interest in distributed renewable energy, driven by increasing awareness of clean energy, rising electricity demand and the growing need for greater energy independence. The state’s large residential base, agricultural communities and expanding commercial activity offer significant potential for rooftop solar and distributed energy solutions.

Making Solar More Affordable with ‘Pay Just ₹999’

A key feature of the Ghar Ghar Solar campaign is Tata Power Solaroof’s special financing proposition, ‘Pay Just ₹999’, designed to significantly lower the upfront financial barrier to rooftop solar adoption.

Under the scheme, residential consumers can start their rooftop solar journey with an upfront payment of just ₹999, with up to 100% of the system cost available through financing. The scheme offers affordable EMIs, flexible financing tenures of up to 60 months and instant digital loan approval for faster processing.

As an additional benefit, Tata Power Solaroof will provide complimentary one-year solar insurance from Tata AIG to residential customers under the programme.

The financing proposition, combined with applicable government subsidies, makes rooftop solar significantly more accessible for households looking to reduce their dependence on conventional electricity and move towards cleaner and more self-reliant energy.

Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, residential consumers can avail of central financial assistance of up to ₹78,000. The Government of Bihar is also providing additional state support, taking the combined subsidy benefit to ₹40,000 for a 1 kW system, ₹80,000 for a 2 kW system and up to ₹98,000 for systems of 3 kW and above, subject to applicable guidelines and terms and conditions.

From Solar Generation to Energy Storage

Recognising that energy independence extends beyond generating electricity, Tata Power is also bringing its Battery Energy Storage Solutions to Bihar.

For residential consumers, Tata Power offers battery storage solutions starting from 5 kWh, enabling households to store surplus solar energy and use it when required, including during periods of low solar generation or power interruptions.

For Commercial & Industrial (C&I) consumers, Tata Power offers its PowerHub portfolio, with scalable battery storage solutions ranging from 60 kWh to 5 MWh, with capacities extendable further based on load requirements.

PowerHub is designed to support businesses and enterprises in improving energy management, enhancing operational efficiency, integrating renewable energy and strengthening power reliability.

Together, rooftop solar and battery storage enable consumers to move from simply consuming electricity to actively managing their energy ecosystem.

Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said “Bihar presents a significant opportunity to accelerate the adoption of distributed renewable energy, supported by growing consumer awareness, rising energy requirements and the need for greater energy independence. Through the Ghar Ghar Solar campaign, we are bringing together rooftop solar, battery storage and accessible financing solutions to enable consumers to generate, store and use clean energy with greater confidence. Our ambition to support solarisation of 5 lakh households across Bihar over the next three years reflects our commitment to the state’s clean energy aspirations while enabling households, businesses and communities to participate more actively in India’s energy transition.”

‘Mera Gaon, Mera Solar’ – Powering Communities Together

As part of the Ghar Ghar Solar campaign, Tata Power is also launching ‘Mera Gaon, Mera Solar’, a community-driven initiative aimed at accelerating collective adoption of rooftop solar across villages and semi-urban communities in Bihar. The initiative will focus on creating awareness about the economic, environmental and energy-security benefits of rooftop solar while encouraging communities to adopt clean energy collectively. Under the programme, every 100 homes solarised in a village will unlock an opportunity for the community to choose from a curated bouquet of CSR initiatives, enabling communities to channel their collective solar adoption towards broader social development and build more self-reliant, sustainable communities.

Tata Power’s Growing Clean Energy Footprint in Bihar
