Tata Power installs India's first on-ground bifacial solar project in Chengamari
Powering the future: Sustainability on the go
Tata Power takes a significant leap forward in India's clean energy journey with the first-ever installation of on-ground bifacial modules at Asia's largest tea estate, Chengmari, West Bengal.
About the project
This innovative solar solution is a cornerstone moment for the advent of green energy in India. The Chengmari Estate has always been a hallmark of quality and tradition. Their collaboration with Tata Power serves to solidify solar power use, as well as leading others to the same by example.
Innovation and solution
The 1040 kW bifacial solar panel system commissioned by TPREL consist of 1900 module. It was completed within a swift six-month timeframe and is expected to generate a significant 1.5 million units of electricity annually for the tea estate. The bifacial technology captures sunlight from both sides of the panel, thereby increasing output and creating a multifold impact.
Challenges
While the ground-breaking installation of this inventive technology was a task, 3.5 months of unpredictable rains did not help the cause. Despite being at a relative disadvantage, TPREL accomplished the completion of this project in the given timeline.
Impact
Being a clean energy source, it is benefiting the environment by offsetting an estimated 29,420 lakh tones of CO2 emissions per year. Along with that, the solar panels are also providing a reliable and sustainable power source for the estate's operations.
